BEYOND classical p-values
Statistical and AI methods for better inferences in Psychology
BEYOND is a methodological Doctoral school organised by methodological research groups at DIPSCO, UniTrento, i.e. QPsyLab, WeBo Lab and CogNosco Lab.
BEYOND will take place in Rovereto at the Department of Psychology and Cognitive Science from May 26 to May 31.
Aim
Conventional Null Hypothesis Significance Tests (NHSTs) have long been central to psychological research. However, several novel methodologies now seek to move beyond the mere calculation of p-values for inferential statistics in psychological studies. This school will offer a series of intensive courses and seminars designed to enhance inferential analyses through innovative approaches, including statistical permutation tests, advanced network psychometrics, and machine learning techniques from artificial intelligence. Consequently, BEYOND will empower transdisciplinary approaches, connecting several communities of postgraduate researchers with keen interests in data science, psychometrics, statistica and artificial intelligence. The school will thus differentiate itself from other initiatives already established and led by Universities within our geographical area.
Participants
BEYOND is meant for Doctoral students in social sciences, with a special focus, but not limited to, Psychology. Postdocs and young resewrachers interested in alternatives to NHST are welcomed. The maximum capacity is of 30 participants.
Outline
BEYOND will feature a total of 30 hours of face-to-face lectures, a social event and plenty of opportunities to network, discuss psychological data and models and enjoy scientific exchanges.
